2 Truths & a Lie
Mixed Customers

1) Valuable Change

We have all heard about magicians accidentally spending a
coin gimmick at the store or in a vending machine. But one
time, at an IBM convention, I bought a muffin from a snack
stand and in my $0.50 change I received a quarter that
turned out to be a flipper coin! Best muffin I ever bought!!

2) Miracle Plant

I was helping a magician friend set up for a show. We had a
little time to kill and were talking about a deck of cards
he had Velcroed in his case. He mentioned it was his
invisible deck that he used as a back-up, mostly for the
card sword. Long story short, we got talking about routines
with the deck and I showed him a few and the deck
accidentally ended up in my pocket. Sure enough, the card
sword failed and his deck was not there. He looked up and said,
“Does anyone in the audience happen to have a deck of cards?”
which resulted in a “miracle” because he never even touched the deck!

3) Trick or Dog Treat

Growing up I used the excuse “the dog ate my work” more than
once. I never imagined it would be true, especially when my
work turned out to be doing magic. But right before a
birthday party show a few years ago, a big Labrador came up
and was sniffing my props box and before I knew it he was
chewing my D’lite gimmick. When I jumped at him to try to
rescue it, the dog chose to swallow it whole. I was then faced
with a moral dilemma. Do I confess that the show is now two
minutes shorter to the mom so she can keep an eye on the dog,
or do I lie awake at night imagining the shock when someone
discovers a finger in their dog’s poop?
